I think the fact of the matter is that when you dress up, there are cultural implications; there are connotations that are assumed. There’s the general glazing over of the eye, and assumptions are made. Quick and easy, super predictable. You see dinner jacket, for example, and you don’t assume that the person’s not going to be able to afford his meal, or that he’s out of place in this fine dining situation, because he’s got a dinner jack on. Meanwhile, the bloke to the right of him’s got shorts on and a teeshirt, and he’s damn near getting harassed for being there. Service is awful. And that’s just the fundamental, essential human behavior for you. Assumptions are made; allusions are strewn out to the nth degree, and it all starts with that first visual impression. It’s the visual cues that you should watch for about yourself, that you should be more conscious about, for yourself.
